Aioli-lujah!: Russell House Tavern

What I love most about Russell House Tavern (Harvard Square) is that it's earned a place on my dipping sauce hall of fame with its several wonderful aiolis.

RHT is open from 12 PM - 1 AM Sunday to Wednesday, and till 2 AM Thursday-Saturday. Brunch, lunch, dinner, beers, and cocktails: all their menus are awesome. I love that it's fairly casual. Get a reservation for peak dinner hours or else it'll be about a 1.25 hour wait. Sparkling water is complimentary.

The best things I've had at RHT:

Brownie Batter Donuts

I saw the commercials, and I passed by three Dunkin' Donuts on my way to work every day, gazing at the heart-shaped donuts in the case longingly. Though Dunkin's donuts have always let me down in the past, I finally just had to do it. They came out for Valentine's Day, so they may disappear any day!

Every time I passed by the things, I assumed the brownie batter was just in that glaze on the top and that it would be a frustrating whisper of brownie-ness. I figured I'd grab one, take a picture and a bite or two and then blog about how Dunkin' Donuts had once again fooled me into eating sugary cardboard.

Trader Joe's Croissants

Trader Joe's frozen croissants are amazing. Parisians tell me that they're just as good as fresh croissants from street carts in Paris. This is in large part because if you don't make them yourself, you're never going to be able to get them fresh like you can from a street cart that makes them constantly. Even at the best bakeries, therefore, they'll never measure up.
This is where Trader Joe's croissants have the upper hand. You're in control, so eat them right out of then oven, twenty minutes after popping them in. Well, maybe twenty-three minutes - don't hurt yourself.

It has been pointed out to me by my not-quite-such-a-chocolate-whore girlfriend that these things may pack too much chocolate for some in the morning. For such people, they'll make a better dessert. Trader Joe's also has almond croissants and miniature plain croissants.

My next move, on the other hand, will be to fry up some bacon and stick it in my chocolate croissant.
